The Danum Partnership

The Danum Partnership was established in 2019 when Kevin Orchard and David Shuttle decided to purchase 3-year-old filly Megan from Germany to embark on a juvenile hurdling campaign. She won her first race for them and then received black type by finishing third in a listed fillies hurdle at Aintree in December 2019. Buoyed by this success, they then decided to start buying horses to syndicate with other owners with Stuart Edmunds.  As at 1 September 2023 the following horses are managed by the Danum Partnership:

Gunnery Officer (9yo gelding)

Gunnery Officer has had a successful Point to Point career in Ireland, trained by champion trainer Colin Bowe and ridden in all six races by champion jockey Barry O’Neill. Two wins and two places from six races. His rating is 95+, which is extremely high.   His last win was an easy win in Ireland’s richest Point-to-Point race at Monksgrange on 24 April 2022. Horses with this rating normally sell for well over £100,000. Gunnery Officer did not cost this much for one reason, he has been partially sighted in his left eye since birth. Stuart’s advice was sought and, although he would normally shy away from such a purchase, such was Gunnery’s class he thought it a sound purchase. He has won going left-handed and right-handed and jumps straight so the signs are positive that eye issue is not hindering his ability. Ciaran Gethings has ridden him and was impressed. Another purchase made on the recommendation of bloodstock agent JD Moore.  He won his first race for the syndciate at Warwick on 1 November 2022, a novice hurdle, and susequently was placed at Ffos Llas and Leicester with a penalty in hot novice hurdles.  Gunnery will go chasing in 2024/25.

Innisfree Lass (6yo filly)

Bought privately from Ireland on the recommendation of Mike Hammond, father of jockey Charlie Hammond. A Yeats filly out of an amazing mare called Topless. A fine figure of a horse that has proved she has plenty of stamina. She won twice and was beaten on the nod into second in 2024.  An exciting 2024/25 season awaits.

Birdhouse (5yo filly)

Birdhouse was bought at the Arqana sales in December 2022 by JD Moore and purchased from him by Danum to be syndciated into 6 shares.  She quickly showed that her stunning pedigree had produced an above average racehorse.  Following a promising first run in a class 2 bumper at Ascot she won a bumper at Fakenham in May 2023.  Birdhouse won well at Fekanham in March 2024.  She is well handicapped and an exciting 2024/25 season is expected.

Addosh (6yo mare)

Addosh has been a great servant to since her purchase in July 2021.  She is now racing in Danum colours as part of a £30 a week syndicate aimed at introducing new owners to the thrills of racing.  She will soon begin a novice handicap chase career.

Majestic Jameela (4yo filly)

Majestic Jameela was purchased in May 2023 with a view to winning filles juvenile hurdles.  As at 1 June 2024 she has run seventeen times, never finishing out of the money apart from a 7th in a class 1 listed race at Doncatser.

Sailed Away (6yo gelding)

Sailed Away has been leased to the Stewkley Racing Syndicate with effect from 1 July 2024.  He will run in the name and colours representing the village of Stewkley and neighbouring area, with a close link to the succesful Stewkley FC.  He had a consistent 2023/24 season, winning nicely at Huntongdon and being placed regularly.
